Ride The Pocket! Magnolia Boulevard Returns Home To The Burl On A Chilly Saturday Night.
The year 2020 can kiss my a$$, and up until Saturday night, 2021 could kiss it as well. There, I said it. Let’s just lay it to rest and focus on the future. As the weather begins to warm up, the hope is that the musical opportunities do so as well. That’s what drug me out of hibernation, and after receiving my 2nd vaccination shot, I’ve been waiting patiently on an opportunity to jump back in here at Capture Kentucky. Now is not only the right time, but it’s also the right show. If you’re new to the band or the site, allow me introduce ya. Back in 2017, I…

COVID Be Damned. Magnolia Boulevard Returns To The Burl For A Sold-Out Show With The Ox-Eyed Daisies In Tow
Let’s face it, 2020 and COVID can collectively kiss all of our a$$es. Since I turned 21, live music has been a staple in my life and something that has been able to make my soul smile. Live music is my antidepressant. 2020 has largely robbed me of that peace. But on Sunday, it was time to return to the Mother Church of Kentucky Music, The Burl. Make no mistake, COVID still had it’s hands in the experience, but The Burl has adapted quite well and won’t go down without a fight. Tables of six were sold for a show held in the parking lot of the Burl. Drinks and…

Cutting Every Rug And Killin Every Jug With Ian Noe, Devon Gilfillian and Daisy Helmuth At The Burl
Sometimes an article needs time to simmer. Seeing Ian Noe at his CD release, processing what we experienced and turning that into an article has taken me a few days. It was one of those nights that will be talked about for years to come. I made a Facebook post on my personal page before the show that accurately described how the night felt. “Good morning to all the good people!! Today is the day we get to send off our next star out into the world! Come to The Burl and be a part of history with Ian Noe tonight!!” I often call The Burl our Mother Church. While…

Eric Bolander Rides ‘The Wind’ Into The Burl To Celebrate His New Album
Eric Bolander is a name that pops up quite a bit around these parts and there’s a good reason for that, Eric is a total badass. So when he invited me to cover his release party, I couldn’t say yes fast enough. As the release date for his new album approached, I was given the opportunity to do an exclusive premiere of ‘The Wind.’ You can check that out here. For me, as a Kentuckian, the opportunity to premiere songs and albums that folks like Eric put together is the ultimate honor for what we’re trying to do here at Capture Kentucky. Why? Because music is the blood, sweat, tears,…

Jake Brakes And Heartaches. Coby Langham, Sean Whiting, Laid Back Country Picker and Jason Sinkhorn Invade The Burl
Having been around music and musicians, I know the nervousness and anxiety-inducing thoughts an artist goes through as they release new music. No matter how confident you are or how great you may feel the music is, you still worry about being too open and how others will receive and perceive your music. On Saturday night at The Burl, Coby Langham went through those very emotions and fears as he unleashed his debut EP, ‘Years On The Road’. If you’d like to know our thoughts on the EP, you can find that here. When I asked Coby before the show, how he overcame his fears, he gave a very simple…

Joslyn & The Sweet Compression Brought The Party To The People!
This article won’t be in-depth. There’s a really simple reason for that and once you see the photos, you’ll get it. After all, they say that a picture is worth a thousand words right? The Burl had to be at or near capacity. It was PACKED and I could not have been more proud. I struggled to get photos. I struggled to see. I struggled all night and I couldn’t have been happier. Seeing your friends have success is one of the best feelings on this earth. The two bands on the bill were Magnolia Boulevard and Joslyn & The Sweet Compression. Joslyn played Magnolia Boulevard’s release party earlier this…

EXCLUSIVE: Colter Wall Destroys The Burl With A Little Help From Coby Langham
Colter Wall, a unique name, tied to an even more unique voice. Him and his good friend, Tyler Childers, are on a mission to save Country Music. Some say these two are the equivalent to a modern day Waylon and Willie, and you’ll get no argument from me. The two sold-out Colter shows at The Burl (Capacity of 300) are a great indication of just quickly Colter’s star is rising. There is zero doubt that next time he’s in town, it will be in a much bigger venue, and deservedly so.

Dancing The Night Away With Magnolia Boulevard At The Burl
If you’ve seen this site before, you’ll know the concept. I find Kentucky bands and artists that I feel need a little spotlight and I do my best to convey the reasons you should care. My motto is pretty simple, support the artists or lose the art. That should be a pretty compelling argument, but I’m sure you’ll want more, so let’s get started. One of the bands that have been on my radar for some time, is Lexington’s Magnolia Boulevard. I’ve watched several performances on the ole Tube of You, but I just hadn’t had the opportunity to catch them live. Thankfully though, that all changed on Saturday night…
