Sixth Floor performs “Workhorse” in Richmond, KY
The Bowling Green area has given us some fantastic music over the years. One of my personal favorites happened to be Sixth Floor. A heavy band with deep roots in Southern Rock, Sixth Floor sounded like no one else. To be completely honest, there is still no one that sounds like them. Here, they’re performing one of my favorite songs in “Workhorse.” You can’t get more blue collar than this one. Enjoy!!

Western Kentucky has always been good to me. I’ve made many friends in that area over the years. Some of which are very dear to me. *cough* Chris Bratcher *cough* One fella that I really enjoyed and I made a point to keep up with, is Bowling Green’s Clayton Crowder. I worked a bit with Bowling Green’s legendary Sixth Floor back in the day. Wade England was a member of Sixth Floor, playing bass or guitar when needed. So once they parted ways, Wade created a new band called Undead Anna. Undead Anna featured Clayton playing rhythm guitar and providing the vocals. Bowling Green’s Spillway Bar & Grill Celebrates 20th Anniversary on May 12th!
What does a music venue really mean to a community? That’s a very difficult question to answer, but one that I want to try and tackle. Smaller venues have a tendency to attract fair-weather business owners, especially when the capacity of the venue isn’t 25,000 people where so many people go and word of mouth helps things grow much more quickly. As soon as a small venue begins losing money, most close up shop and disappear as a small blip on the musical map. Others though, help musicians and communities grow and as time goes on are sometimes taken for granted. When those things happen, it breaks my heart. As…
