After a thunderstorm shook me out of bed overnight I was worried about the Festival field being a muddy mess, which is definitely no fun when you’re carrying expensive equipment. No worries needed, other than a spot here and there the field was in great shape for Saturday.

Day One From The Master Musicians Festival in Somerset, KY
Somerset, Kentucky was definitely the place to be on the first full weekend of July! The 24th edition of the Master Musicians Festival was about to get started and I was about shoot my first festival. How cool is that? Here’s to hoping that I don’t let ya down! Haha Things got started early on Friday and thankfully Mother Nature didn’t throw anything terribly bad at the festival crowd, other than some Summer heat. I mean, it is July in south central Kentucky after all! Ya had to at least expect a need for sunscreen.

Mr. Big – Defying Gravity (Album Review)

Major cities often times struggle to have a defining identity. Thankfully for Kentucky, Louisville doesn’t have that problem. Although some may say that Louisville is schizophrenic. On the Dr. Jeckyl side of things, you have Kentucky Derby and the horse elitists. On the Mr. Hyde side, you have an incredible art and music scene. This weekend (July 14th-16th), many artists will make their way to the stage in Louisville. L.A. Guns, Budderside and Sinful Lilly At The Forum In Hazard, KY
Kentucky’s Sinful Lilly got things started with their own brand of (as Fredi Handshoe the band’s front man calls it) guitar-driven, alternative hard rock. The Richmond natives tore through songs like “Wait Your Turn” “Guilty” “Jack” a new song “Devil Music and the Record Machine”. The band put on a high-energy stage show with Nikki Handshoe (bass and vocal) often leaving the stage to mingle with the audience, while never missing a beat! Trey Bledsoe, who is a wild man on the drums as you will in the photos below, rounds out the trio.

Is Kentucky The Key To The Future Of Music
Now before you go calling me crazy, hear me out. As I type this article, there are already several artists or bands that are currently making an impact in the music industry. For instance, Eastern Kentuckians Chris Stapleton and Sturgill Simpson have country back on track to being a listenable art form again. Louisville’s Bryson Tiller created an entire music genre. Bowling Green’s Cage The Elephant are chart-toppers in the Alternative world and let’s not forget that they also won a Grammy. Edmonton, KY’s Black Stone Cherry continue to carry the classic rock and roll torch. You can also add Louisville’s My Morning Jacket as a festival staple and headliner.…
