CENTRAL KENTUCKY SONGWRITERS TO PLAY CONCERT FOR THE ACOUSTIC GUITAR PROJECT — A GLOBAL MUSIC WEB SITE

Five local Lexington songwriters will play a concert as part of the global music platform, TheAcousticGuitarProject.com. The show is Wednesday, November 28th at 7:00pm at the Austin City Saloon located at 2350 Woodhill Drive. Cost is $8.00 at the door. Proceeds after expenses to benefit CENTRAL MUSIC ACADEMY. Each artist was challenged by The Acoustic Guitar Project to write an original song, and record it live, in just one week. All musicians used the same guitar— A Washburn HF11SCE-O and the same simple handheld recorder. None of the musicians were allowed to edit their song on the computer. At the upcoming concert, all the featured songwriters will talk a little about…

Joslyn & The Sweet Compression Brought The Party To The People!

This article won’t be in-depth. There’s a really simple reason for that and once you see the photos, you’ll get it. After all, they say that a picture is worth a thousand words right? The Burl had to be at or near capacity. It was PACKED and I could not have been more proud. I struggled to get photos. I struggled to see. I struggled all night and I couldn’t have been happier. Seeing your friends have success is one of the best feelings on this earth. The two bands on the bill were Magnolia Boulevard and Joslyn & The Sweet Compression. Joslyn played Magnolia Boulevard’s release party earlier this…

Despite A Late Start To His Career, Dan Conn’s Music Continues to ‘Shine On.’

For me, I look for music that moves me. That can be construed in a couple of different ways, so let me clarify a bit. With Dan Conn, you’re not buying a dance record. You’re buying a collection of short stories with the sole purpose of soliciting an emotional response. Be it love, loss or heartbreak, Dan Conn’s songs are relatable at nearly every level. I’ll call it a blue-collar authenticity. His songs are real. They’re matter of factly in nature and they deserve your attention. Especially if you listen to music as intently as I try and tell myself that I do. For ‘Shine On’, Conn has decided to…

Exclusive U.S. Premiere: Rhyan Sinclair Debuts Her Beautiful “Let the Light in (In the Name of Christmas)”

I want to begin by saying this song will be one of the most moving songs you will hear in 2018. I do not say that lightly. The compassion and heart within Rhyan Sinclair’s message will stop you in your tracks and when you find out that the wisdom within was written by a 17-year old young lady, you will have a little faith restored in humanity. When asked to explain the meaning and her intentions of the song, Rhyan simply stated, “Let the Light in (In the Name of Christmas)”, touches on the divisive times we live in and the hope that the holiday season can bring us together.”…

Kentucky’s Current King Of Country Music, Chris Stapleton, Returns Home To Rupp Arena With Marty Stuart And Brent Cobb

I have written several articles about when artists return home to Kentucky, but in my lifetime, none will likely be bigger than Chris Stapleton playing Rupp Arena. As a fellow Eastern Kentuckian, Rupp Arena to us, is like the Ryman. It’s our Mother Church. It’s an arena named after Coach Adolph Rupp and is the home of our beloved Kentucky Wildcats in downtown Lexington. For a Kentucky artist, that was born in this city, to rise in popularity and be able to sell-out over 17,000 seats at Rupp Arena is unheard of. Unchartered territory, even. The Kentucky Headhunters, Billy Ray Cyrus, The Backstreet Boys featured a couple Kentuckians, John Michael…

Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein Destroys Manchester Music Hall In Lexington

Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein is a legend in the annals of Punk Rock history. At the tender young age of sixteen, he was skulking about the stage in Frankenstein attire playing quick licks for Hall of Fame snubbed Horror Punk Band, The Misfits. The costume-clad group made a name for themselves in the early eighties with horror-themed theatrics and morbid, sometimes outlandish lyrics that embodied the true nature of Punk Rock. After going through several members in his previous band, Gorgeous Frankenstein, Doyle along with the band’s latest singer, Alex Tory decided to move on under Doyle’s name. The band has had success releasing two albums and several collaborations with…

Hillbilly Poetry: A Snapshot Of Kentucky’s Kyle Fields

With Capture Kentucky, we do our best to shine a light on local artists and to create opportunities within our Commonwealth. Opportunities that can grow right alongside us as we support the incredibly deep pool of talent here. I want to introduce you to a young man that left Kentucky to chase his dreams in Nashville. Kyle Fields spent about five years living in Nashville and performing in many of the staples up and down Broadway, as well as many writers rounds. But it was his love for family, friends, our music community and UK Basketball that brought him to Lexington in August of 2017. Kyle was born and raised…
